Travelled to Ormskirk to collect polytunnel. Fencing completed. Planning & photography of via sagularis to west. Planning of south-west corner. Road surface to east photographed. Emptying of modern drain trenches continues.
English Heritage sign erected. Sondage in corner of centurion's block revealed drain perhaps continuation of that found to west, filled with matrix containing organic material. Planning continued in south-west corner. Emptying of modern drain trenches continues.
Via sagularis was cleaned for photography and cleaning started on officer's house. Examination of south-west corner has now revealed postholes, one of which was cut by a pit. A possible street surface is visible in the east face of Rainbird's southern trench, although this is not continuous. Looking at the plan of the officer's house, there may well be a western extension similar to a chalet. It is conceivable that the 'rampart revetment' wall is a partially surviving west wall for this. Erection of one of the polytunnels was completed. Information board collected from Bowes Museum.
Ill. Cleaning and planning on west side of site. Plastic sheeting on first tunnel re-seated.
