Much remains still to be learnt about the archaeology of Chester-le-Street, and particularly about the fort (and associated civilian settelement) of Concangis. However, one fortunate result of the excavations at Chester-le-Street is that, thanks to the interest of the Parochial Church Council and its architects, together with the district council, it is hoped to be able to preserve part of the officer's quarters, so that the present-day inhabitants of Chester-le-Street can have a tangible reminder of their Roman ancestors.
