This coin is a silver denarius, although it is rather debased
and so is coloured by copper corrosion products. It bears the head of the
Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius and was issued in A.D.148-9. The problem with
coins is that it is not always easy to tell when they are lost (although
it's a fairly safe bet that it was after they were minted).
