Future enhancements

In order to exploit the potential of its Web pages to the full, the Journal of Roman Military Equipment Studies will be introducing a range of online services during 1997. These will complement, rather than replace, the paper journal itself and will initially fall into three categories:

  1. A consolidated index for volumes 1 to 9 (further volumes will be added as they appear). This has already been implemented.
  2. Multilingual summaries for every paper so far published. The languages included will be English, French, German, and Spanish. These have been frequently requested, but would be expensive to produce on paper for every article.
  3. Supplementary information to accompany articles published in the journal. A good example would be colour photographs of finds, expensive to print on paper, but easy and cheap to place on the Web. Likewise, three-dimensional VRML models or video clips could be incorporated. The only condition on the use of such facilities will be that the actual article should not be dependent upon the Web material, merely enhanced by it.
